BTech student booked for raping woman

A BTech student hailing from Una has been booked for allegedly raping a 27-yearold woman after promising to marry her.

The accused, Harshid, resident of Phase 2, SAS Nagar, is pursuing BTech from Doaba Group of Colleges.

In her complaint to the police, the victim, said she came in contact with Harshid in her hometown, Nangal. As they developed a relationship a year ago, Harshid asked her to move to SAS Nagar and work there, so they could meet conveniently, she added.

Therefore, she moved to SAS Nagar in October 2013 and started working with a private firm. Eventually, Harshid took her to his sister’s place, where he promised to marry her and established physical relations with her. However, he backed out later, the victim alleged.

Consequently, she approached the police with a rape complaint. A medical examination was conducted and it came to the fore that the victim was three-month pregnant.

A case undersection 376 (rape) and 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered against the accused.

Phase 11 station house officer Jarnail Singh said investigation was on, and they would nab the accused soon.
