Cancer patient jumps to death at PGIMER

A young cancer patient, who was to get 19th cycle of chemotherapy on Monday, ended his life by jumping of the fifth floor of the New OPD block of the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh.


According to the PGIMER officials, Karamjit Singh, 24, who was a resident of Jalandhar, was undergoing treatment for cancer for the past several months. Karamjit was accompanied by his mother on Monday when he committed suicide.

The officials said that he was at the PGIMER OPD to get chemotherapy, which he was reluctant to take. He was scheduled to get the chemotherapy cycle at the Day Care Centre of the PGIMER, which is located on the fifth floor of the New OPD Block.

Karamjit left the centre and jumped off the fifth floor of the building. According to the PGI officials, he was immediately rushed to the Advanced Trauma Centre of the hospital, where he was decaled brought dead.
