Taking a dig at Arun jaitley, the BJP candidate from Amritsar, for claiming to be a ‘mazboot neta’ (strong leader), his Congress rival and former chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Monday asked why he took 40 years to find a constituency for himself to contest elections.

“Mazboot netas do not go begging for constituencies to secure their secret ambitions”, he remarked while suggesting that the senior BJP leader nurtures secret ambitions to become prime minister.

Referring to Jaitely’s statement describing Amarinder as a ‘majboor neta’ (helpless leader) and himself as a ‘mazboot neta’, Capt Singh said it is already established as to who is majboor and who is mazboot.

“If you were so strong you would not have made backdoor entries to the Parliament because strong leaders don’t use back doors. It is you who is helpless and not me”, he quipped in a statement issued here.

“I understand your ambitions to somehow get elected with the obvious intentions, but I am sorry to tell you that you chose a wrong constituency by trusting a man like Parkash Singh Badal, as you must have by now realised as to what it means to trust Badal who has simply used you to get rid of Navjot Singh Sidhu, your party’s sitting MP”, the former chief minister said.

Slams Jaitley for his remarks on Jaswant

Amarinder accused Jaitely of having double standards for criticising his senior party colleague and former union minister Jaswant Singh.

“While you desperately came to contest to Amritsar of which you do not even know the ‘A’ (sic), you opposed Jaswant Singh’s genuine claims for Barmer”, he said while reminding his opponent that before criticising his senior colleague he should introspect. “Jaswant Singh had won many a poll battle and had never shied away from any battle like a true soldier.”
