The accused Balraj, holding the post of naib court, at the Sector 43 district courts was arrested from the corridor outside courtroom number 14, as part of a trap.

On April 4, a resident of Milk Colony, Dhanas, Rohani alias Romy, had complained to the agency that Balraj was demanding Rs 5,000 in bribe to help him get bail in a case of voluntarily causing hurt registered at the Sector 11 police station.

Non-bailable warrants had been issued against Romy, after he had stopped appearing before the court.

The CBI registered a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act and then caught the accused on Saturday.

There was commotion outside the court when the arrest was carried out.

THE MOST VENOMOUS

Late on Wednesday night, my smartphone flashed the caller's name 'Salim Khan'. I presumed it was Khan wanting to inform me of yet another exciting snake rescue or a tragic snakebite. But my heart sank. It was not Khan but a panicky lady blabbering at the other end. I thought my worst fears had come true: after having rescued hundreds of venomous snakes from tricky spots, I thought this time Khan had himself been bitten by one and that his relatives were informing me. However, it was not exactly a venomous snake that had struck Khan. It was MAN, a species that has proved deadlier than the most toxic of slithering serpents.  Writes VIKRAM JIT SINGH
