Centre okays plan to upgrade rural roads

The union government on Monday approved the plan to upgrade more than 1,000 kilometres of and 19 bridges in Haryana, a project worth Rs. 960 crore, under phase-2 of Pradhan Mantri Gramin Sadak Yojana (PMGSY).

Under the plan, 85 rural roads would be upgraded and 19 new bridges would be constructed, Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said here on Monday, adding that the upgrade would be complete in six to 18 months. "The Centre has acknowledged Haryana as among six states that have utilised the PMGSY phase-1 funds fully. Even under phase-2, Haryana will make optimum use of the money," said the CM.

While sending the proposal to the Centre, the state government would consider the views of all 10 elected MPs from Haryana, said Hooda. The empowered committee of the Union Ministry of Rural Development on Monday approved the state government's proposals during a meeting in New Delhi.
