City sealed as over 100 nakas set up

In view of the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections to the Chandigarh parliamentary constituency, the Chandigarh police conducted a 'city seal' exercise here on Sunday night between 12am to 3am.

A total of 106 nakas - 38 outer, and 68 internal - were set up by the local police. Besides, the traffic wing of the Chandigarh police also laid down 22 nakas at different places. As many as 1,000 police personnel, including deputy superintendants of police (DSPs), station house officers (SHOs), inspectors, and traffic staff, were deployed at various places of Chandigarh for the purpose.

During the exercise, the local police checked 7,194 vehicles, out of which 97 were challaned, and 13 impounded.

The traffic police staff issued a total of 132 challans - 77 for drunken driving, and 55 for miscellaneous traffic violations. The traffic police impounded 79 vehicles and cash of `4,600 was collected on the spot.

Punjab: ABP Sanjha ceases operations

Failure to get access to cable TV carriage by the leading operator in Punjab has claimed another new channel as victim. Punjabi news channel ABP Sanjha announced to cease operations on Wednesday evening, affecting 200 employees. Management of the channel, a part of the Anandabazar Patrika group that runs leading channels including ABP News in Hindi, cited the virtual blackout as the primary reason for the shutdown.
