Class-3 girl murdered after ‘rape bid’ in Solan

A schoolgirl was murdered after an alleged rape bid at Chhachi village under Kandaghat police station in this district on Saturday.

The suspect, a Class-9 student of Government Senior Secondary School, Haripur, buried the body in a khud to destroy the evidence. He is also a resident of Chhachi village and said to be cousin of the victim, who was a Class-3 student.

Superintendent of police Ramesh Chhajta, who along with a team of forensic experts and DSP (headquarters) Hemant Thakur visited the spot, said the suspect is also a minor and has been taken into police custody. He has confessed to the crime. The body of the victim has been sent for autopsy to Indira Gandhi Medical College, Shimla.

Preliminary investigations by police revealed that the incident took place when the victim and suspect were returning home after school on Saturday.The suspect allegedly took the girl to a secluded place and attempted to rape her. When she started crying, the suspect strangulated her to death. After this, he buried the body under stones and loose soil in a khud.

The body was noticed by a village woman as she came to collect fodder for cattle. She intimated the victim’s family who informed the police, where a report concerning the missing of the girl was lodged on late Saturday evening. Soon, the police reached the spot and dug out the body that was identified by the victim’s family.

Later, the police took the suspect into custody. A case has been registered.
