The resentment among the villagers adjoining the cantonment over the closure of roads by army has been brewing for some time. On Tuesday, 100 villagers of Majholi, Jalapadi, Kotli, Bhalgo, Dhar Kiyari and Jabbal Ka Bagh villages arrived here to meet deputy commissioner Vikas Labroo.

In the past two weeks, SDM Jyoti Rana visited the spot twice for resolving the issue but all in vain.

In a communication to the defence ministry through deputy commissioner, the villagers said that they were facing inconvenience because of the closed paths and roads blocked by the army. They had been facing a great deal of difficulty in reaching their places of working, hospitals and offices in Nahan town, alleged the villagers.

Notably, the villagers have been using the paths and roads since the days of the princely state of Sirmour.

When asked, SDM Jyoti Rana said that the issue was being tried settle amicably.

The army would have to fulfill the commitment for opening the roads and the paths two hours in morning and evening, said the SDM.
