Chief minister Parkash Singh Badal on Sunday asked the state vigilance bureau to inquire the alleged involvement of government officials and other persons in a fraud of leasing out about 11 acres of panchayat land at Tangori village in SAS Nagar district.

A spokesperson of the CM’s office said Delhi-based Verman Enterprises had submitted a complaint to the CM that some officials and other people fraudulently leased out 90 kanal and 12 marla of panchayat land of Tangori village in November 2010 for a period of 33 years to them for setting up of an educational institution for disabled children.

Later, it was found that the land for which lease was signed with Verman Enterprises could not be leased and thus the director, rural development, had cancelled the lease on December 6, 2013.

The complainant had approached the CM for a thorough probe into the matter so that the guilty officials of the rural development department and some other people involved in this land scam could be punished.
