CM, education minister greet teachers

Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal on Thursday felicitated the teaching fraternity on the eve of Teachers' Day, impressing upon the teachers to rise to the occasion for "transforming the destiny of students", especially from the underprivileged sections, by imbibing a spirit of nationalism and inculcating moral values.

The chief minister assured the teachers that the state government was making all-out efforts to create a congenial atmosphere to enable them to discharge their duties efficiently.

Education minister Dr Daljit Singh Cheema also extended his greetings, remembering Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan as an eminent academician, statesman and a great philosopher, on whose anniversary the day is dedicated to the teachers' fraternity.

Avian flu scare: Crows in Tarn Taran died of poisoning

The Regional Disease Diagnostic Laboratory in Jalandhar, on Friday, cleared the air around the mysterious death of 300 crows in Tarn Taran, declaring that the death was due to toxicity. It was about a week ago that about 300 crows had died at Baghiari village near Tarn Taran that is close to a bird sanctuary at Sarai Amanat Khan.
