In SAS Nagar (Mohali) to attend the inaugural function of the four-day Progressive Punjab Agriculture Summit, Naidu claimed that the TDP had opposed the military action at Golden Temple and the then President, NT Rama Rao, had also openly opposed the move.

He also asked the Congress to name party men who perpetrated the anti-Sikh riots. "In Andhra Pradesh, we protected Sikhs," he said after his speech at the inaugural session of the summit.

On Telangana, he lashed out at the Congress for misusing Article 3 of the Constitution for division of states. "Andhra Pradesh is being divided against the wishes of the common people of the state," Naidu said.

He, however, was on a different plain on the proposal to link rivers, which was proposed during the National Democratic Alliance's (NDA) rule at the Centre. He said the task force formed by the NDA government for linking rivers, should be revived. So far, Punjab has been against linking of rivers.

He refused to comment on questions if his visit would have political resonance, saying the time was not ripe as Andhra Pradesh was fighting to avoid its bifurcation.
