Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal has said that the Congress has lost its relevance in Punjab due to its "anti-Punjab stance and anti-people policies".

"People of Punjab have shown the door to the Congress due to its dubious track record of remaining a mute spectator to grave injustice with the state. It has been virtually wiped out from the political scene of the state," Badal said while addressing a political conference organised by the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on the occasion of Hola Mohalla here on Wednesday.

He said the Congress had never staged a comeback in any state, be it Bihar, Orissa, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh or Gujarat, where it had been routed out of power. "It (Congress) would meet the same fate in Punjab," he added.

Reiterating that the Congress had always adopted an apathetic attitude towards the state, the chief minister said the Congress-led UPA government has ruined the industry and agriculture of the state by enacting anti-Punjab policies. Badal lamented that the single-point agenda of the UPA government was to ruin farmers of the state, notwithstanding the latter's enormous contribution in making the country self-sufficient in food production.
