Counting of votes to be held at 90 centres

The counting of votes for the general elections-2014 in Haryana will commence at 8 am on May 16.


Haryana chief electoral officer Shrikant Walgad said postal ballots would be counted first up to 8.30 am. Thereafter, the counting of votes on electronic voting machines (EVMs) would start.

Walgad said immediately after the counting of postal ballots, the counting of votes on EVMs would start. He said in case counting of postal ballots takes more time, even in such a situation the counting of votes on EVMs would start exactly at 8.30 am, he said.

The chief electoral officer said 90 counting centres have been set up in the state. He said that the assistant returning officer concerned would conduct the counting of votes at these counting centres.

Walgad said the EVMs would be taken to the voting hall or centre from the strong room in the morning of May 16 after which the counting of votes would take place. He said the entire process of transportation of EVMs would be videographed. Adequate security arrangements would be made at all the polling centres with deployment of police personnel. The polling agent and employees coming to the centres would be thoroughly checked. Similarly, sufficient number of police personnel would remain present outside the counting centre as well as in the strong room.
