Punjab deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal on Tuesday said that Durga Shakti Nagpal, the IAS officer who had cracked down on sand mafia in Uttar Pradesh and was later placed under suspension, was welcome back to serve in Punjab.

Nagpal, 28, was a Punjab cadre IAS officer and was on training from June 20, 2011 to August 24, 2012, in SAS Nagar (Mohali). During her stint in SAS Nagar she was posted as assistant commissioner (general) (under training). She later got her cadre changed to Uttar Pradesh.

"If she is willing to come back and serve in Punjab I have no objection to it. We always require good officers who work in the larger interest of the public”, said Sukhbir. However he declined to comment on the role of UP government and her suspension saying that he was not aware of the complete facts.

Haryana polls:Multi-cornered contests in the offing, hung House likely

A multi-cornered contest is in the offing for the 90 assembly seats in Haryana with six parties, the Congress, Indian National Lok Dal (INLD), BJP, HJC-HJCP combine, BSP and Haryana Lokhit Party (HLP), battling it out.
A tentative analysis of seatwise contests after the filing of nominations suggest that the three political majors, the Congress, BJP and INLD, each are essentially in contest on 45 to 55 seats.
