Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) played a major role in ensuring defeat of Congress on most seats by eating into its traditional vote bank

PPCC president Partap Singh Bajwa was confined to his constituency, Gurdaspur, and was unable to campaign for party candidates

Bajwa's rivalry with Capt Amarinder Singh that had left the Congress a divided house during the polls
Congress's inability to connect with the youth, both personally and on the social media network

The Congress's inability to contain its traditional vote bank such as of Dalits and minority communities

Five factors responsible for SAD's poor show in Punjab

Widespread drug menace in Punjab had virtually turned the voters against the Panthic party

Sand and liquor mafia spreading its wings in the state under the patronage of some Akali leaders had not gone down well with the voters

The senior leadership's arrogance and overconfidence of winning the elections by poll management

Poor governance at the cutting edge of public service delivery system

A strong anti-incumbency against the SAD-BJP alliance which has been in power since 2007
