Chaudhary made the announcement during a press conference in the presence of SAD candidate from Anandpur Sahib constituency, Prem Singh Chandumajra.

Chaudhary remained Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP for four times from erstwhile Hoshiarpur Lok Sabha constituency. Most of the areas under that constituency are now a part of the Anandpur Sahib constituency. He also remained in SAD for some time, but left the party later.

Chaudhary said he had re-joined the party, and would campaign for Chandumajra to ensure his victory in the elections. The country needs strong leaders like Narendra Modi for development in every field, he added.

Meanwhile, the brother of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) founder Kanshi Ram, Dalbara Singh, also announced his unconditional support to Chandumajra.

Welcoming Chaudhary to SAD, Chandumajra said the party would further be strengthened with his presence. He also thanked Dalbara for extending support to him.

Former Rupnagar Improvement Trust chairman RS Parmar, former municipal council president Amarjit Singh Satyal, former municipal councillors Paramjit Singh Makkar and Bachittar Singh, Zila Parishad member Harpreet Singh Basant and SAD leaders Harvinder Singh  and Harpalpur were also present at the occasion.
