Chief minister Virbhadra Singh said on Tuesday that the government would not buckle under the pressure created by the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party, which had demanded a dissolution of the assembly.

Terming the opposition’s behaviour unfortunate, Singh blamed leader of opposition Prem Kumar Dhumal for forcing the government to adjourn the assembly sine die. “No one can be allowed to dictate terms,” he said.

He said members of the opposition had been acting at the behest of Dhumal, who was frustrated due to several graft charges levelled against him and his sons. “Dhumal is using the entire party to meet his political ambitions,” he said.

Singh said the opposition had crossed all levels of decency. “Opposition members should learn the traditions to be followed in the assembly,” he said.

He said the government had rejected the opposition’s demands for discussing certain issues, as they were still pending in the court. He said the law should be allowed to take its own course.

Singh said it was not the first time the BJP had disrupted the proceedings of the House. He said they had disrupted the House proceedings during the winter session and budget session. HE said the date for the next House sitting would be announced shortly.
