Gurdaspur jail clash: minister suspends DSP

Punjab jails minister Sohan Singh Thandal on Monday suspended Balvir Singh Bisla, DSP (maintenance), posted at the central jail, Gurdaspur, on charges of negligence and for entering into a clash with the jail staff.

An official spokesperson said that after reports of fight between the jail staff of the central jail, Gurdaspur, hit the headlines, the minister marked an inquiry to IG jails Jagjit Singh.

He said that in the inquiry report, the DSP had been found guilty of negligence and provoking his subordinate staff to enter into a clash with DSP (security) Harbans Lal. He said the minister immediately ordered the suspension of the guilty officer.

Meanwhile, Thandal issued a strict advisory to the jail staff in the state to discharge their duty with utmost care. He said such incidents would amount to tarnishing the image of the state government, besides encouraging the jail inmates. He said anyone found guilty of negligence would be strictly dealt with.
