How has your experience as a Congress MP been different from that as an Akali parliamentarian?
Libra: Earlier, I had limited exposure by being in a regional party. I am now happy to be part of a national party that has leaders from different cultures and states. The Shiromani Akali Dal is like a pond in front of the ‘sea-like’ Congress.
You switched over to the Congress after voting for the sake of a Sikh Prime Minister. How do you rate Manmohan Singh as the PM?
Manmohan Singh has earned a lot of respect as he has many qualities, mainly calmness and balance of mind, whether it is on the floor of the House or listening to MPs outside on a one-to-one basis, cutting across party lines. He has always been impartial.
Your take on Akali candidate Kulwant Singh?
Kulwant Singh is new to politics, while I have spent my entire life standing by my people.
Former Punjab Congress chief Shamsher Singh Dullo and others are also vying for the party ticket. How hopeful are you of your chances?
Looking at my track record in politics, I think I will get the ticket this time as well. But at the same time, I will not let my party colleagues down, as we are all part of a team.
