Singer-rapper Hard Kaur gave a hard time to the staff of Delhi University’s Kamala Nehru College, where she performed on Wednesday evening. Kaur, who was the celebrity performer at the college’s annual fest, Ullas, shocked the faculty when, during her performance, she allegedly said, “Men are dirty, women are sexy. Men have enjoyed women naked for a long time. Now it’s the turn of the ladies.” She then asked two male members of her troupe to take off their shirts and show their abs to the girls in the audience.

The act worsened when the 34-year-old used cuss words such as bh***c*** freely while interacting with the crowd. Efforts by organisers to ask her to cut down on the profanity went unheeded, as Kaur, as also reported by the campus newspaper, DU Beat, showed the middle finger to those who tried to stop her.

Meanwhile, Kaur invited the college’s principal, Minoti Chatterjee, to join her on stage, which the latter refused. An argument followed with the faculty members and organisers asking her to exercise restrain. Shortly afterwards, a faculty member took to the mike, and abruptly asked the crowd to disperse, forcing Kaur to end her show.

When we spoke to Kaur, she completely denied there being any trouble, “We were asked to end the performance by 8pm because that was the deadline. Everybody loved the show, girls had a good time,” she said. Asked if she used cuss words, she added, “Nothing of the sort was said. Cuss words are used in rap songs as well.”

Speaking about the incident, Geetesh Nirban, media co-ordinator of the college says, “We respect every performer’s performing style. However, with a young audience, she should have avoided objectionable words.”
