Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Friday announced the Haryana Punjabi Sahita Akademi awards for 2013 here. The prestigious Haryana Punjabi Gaurav Puraskar has been given to Karnal’s Punjabi ghazal writer Harbhajan Singh Komal posthumously.
KK Khandelwal, principal secretary to the chief minister and executive vice-chairman of Punjabi Sahitya Akademi, said the prize money had been increased substantially, with the highest honour including Rs. 1.50 lakh cash, shawl and a citation.
Mahakavi Bhai Santokh Singh Puraskar worth Rs. 1.25 lakh has gone to author Lakh Karnalvi, while Surjit Singh Kunjahi of Faridabad and Joginder Kaur of Baruwali, Sirsa, will collect Rs. 1.11 lakh each as Baba Sheikh Farid Puraskar. Gurdas Singh Palna of Kalanwali (Sirsa) gets Sant Taran Singh Vehmi Puraskar worth Rs. 1 lakh, while Birbal Das Gupteshwar of Kalanwali (Sirsa) receives Kavi Haribhajan Singh Renu Puraskar of Rs. 51,000.
Punjabi journalists PP Verma of Panchkula and Surender Bansal of Chandigarh will be honoured with Punjabi Patarkarita Puraskar worth Rs. 51,000 each; and the Lok Gayak (folk singer) Award for a matching sum goes to Kumari Rupinder Kaur Handa of Sirsa. Eight Punjabi writers will receive Rs. 21,000 each as Pustak Puraskar. They are Kashmir Mauji (Sirsa), Balbir Singh Saini (Kathwa), Kesra Ram (Hisar), Subhash Saluja Rania (Sirsa), Davinder Bibipurya, Kiran Deep Singh (Kaithal), Suwarn Singh Virk (Sirsa) and Ashok Kumar Buhani (Kurukshetra).
Seven writers will get Rs. 10,000 each for publishing books.
