On a petition filed by Congress MLA from Ferozepur city, Parminder Singh Pinki, seeking directions to the Punjab government for complying with the centre government's directions of providing him 'Y category' security, the Punjab and Haryana high court has directed the state government to assess his threat perception and reply within a week.

The petition came up for hearing before the court headed by justice Rajiv Narain Raina on Friday.

The petitioner informed the court that the union ministry of home affairs had ordered the state government to provide him 'Y category' security but the state government was reluctant to do that.

Pinki has also requested that the state be directed to restore his security earlier provided by the state till the 'Y category' security was granted.

The court was informed that due to his bold approach during militancy days in Punjab, he had faced threat calls from hardcore militant groups.

While issuing notice of motion to the state government, the court adjourned the case for next hearing on May 9.

Remembering Dr Luckas of FC College

In 1947, Lahore had the most educational institutions for any Asian city; and among the best was Forman Christian College that American activist and academician Dr Charles William Forman had built in 1864. Among its brilliant teachers was one reverend Dr ED Luckas, economics professor there for more than 40 years and principal from 1942 to 1945. Writes RK Kaushik.
