With both the Dhan Dhan Baba Bhai Bhoop Chandji Langar Sewa Society and the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) set to observe the festival of Sankranti at the Bhai Rupa village here, a heavy police force has been deployed in the village to avoid any untoward incident.

Even as 52 village residents are locked in the jail, residents are going to celebrate the festival in the premises of the society on Sunday and have made elaborate arrangements for the same. The SGPC is also expected to celebrate the festival in the gurdwara premises adjacent to the society premises.

Meanwhile, president of SAD (Amritsar) Simranjit Singh Mann, who was stopped from visiting the village by the police on Friday, has talked to Punjab governor Shivraj V Patil on the matter over phone.

Mann said that he has informed the governor about the situation in the village and told him that the way it is being handled and the administration was aiding the SGPC in taking possession of the land could lead to a serious conflict and law and order problem in the village.
