India Post rolls out stamps on World Cup

Cashing in on football fever, India Post released a set of four stamps to mark the Football World Cup 2014, which begins in Brazil on Thursday.

Two stamps are priced at 5 each, while the other two are for 25 each. A miniature sheet for 60 depicting action on the field with the mascot Fuleco is also available.

The stamps, an appropriate tribute to football lovers in India and world, will be available at 81 philatelic bureaux all over the country.

In Punjab, these stamps will be availabl e at Chandigarh General Post Office (GPO) and head post offices in Ludhiana, Patiala, Jalandhar and Amritsar.

The month-long football battle organised by the Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) is an ultimate test of endurance, zeal and mettle, and is an eagerly awaited championship every four years.

Remaining true to its mission, “Develop the game, touch the world, build a better future,” the 2014 FIFA World Cup, Brazil, has taken up the task to communicate the importance of the environment and ecology. Its mascot Fuleco can play a key role in creating environmental awareness. The term is a fusion of two words ‘fotebal’ and ‘ecologia’.
