Inspector, constable held taking bribe in Jalandhar

State Vigilance Bureau (VB) during its ongoing drive against rampant corruption on Tuesday nabbed a Police inspector and constable posted in Excise department red handed accepting bribe.

Disclosing this here on Tuesday, VB chief director-cum-DGP Suresh Arora said that bureau has put up its best efforts to eradicate corruption amongst public servants and others in every sphere in the state. In this direction, the VB caught inspector Ranjit Singh and constable Hardip Singh ,posted at Excise department in district Jalandhar, demanding and accepting bribe from the complainant, Jinderpal of village Palliwali in Nakodar, for implicating him falsely under excise act.

He added that the complainant approached the bureau and alleged that both the accused have raided his house without any official duty and nothing was found from his premises.

Despite that they were demanding a bribe of Rs. 5,000 for not booking him in an excise case.

After finding the veracity of facts a vigilance team led bureau DSP Satpal laid a trap and nabbed both the accused near Nakodar Railway Station in the presence of two government officials as witnesses. The tainted money was recovered from them.

A case has been registered under Prevention of Corruption Act at VB Police Station at Jalandhar and further investigation are underway.
