A chat with the exuberant and witty King Khan is always a treat. Talking to HT City on the sidelines of the 10th Hindustan Times Leadership Summit, Shah Rukh Khan ended up revealing how he is learning to keep his temper under control these days, after several, much talked about, public anger outbursts.

“I’ve sobered down a lot now, after the birth of my children. I used to shout my mouth out. It all just builds up a little too much you see and you take it all out at the wrong place at one time. I’m much nicer now.” He also gave credit to Katrina Kaif, his co-star in Jab Tak Hai Jaan, for helping him mellow down. “Katrina has surely helped me out here yaar!” he said. But he also spared no chance to pull Katrina’s leg, who put up with his teasing with a smile.

When Katrina was asked to pick her favourite co-star between SRK and Sallu, she went blank for a while. Before Kat could answer, she was interrupted by SRK, who suggested, “She can divide the time — Monday-Tuesday-Wednesday for one and Thursday-Friday-Saturday for the other. She can keep Sunday for other actors.”

Talking about how Katrina made him realise the importance of rehearsals, he said, “I never rehearse my scene or dance moves. I work very hard on the sets to get it right. But after looking at Katrina’s performance in JTHJ, I learned that a little preparation can make you look so good on screen. So if I look better in my upcoming films, it’s because of Katrina.”

On his superstar stature, SRK said he doesn’t consider himself one. “I don’t think of myself as a superstar. But some years down the lane, if your children would remember me as a star, I would think I indeed attained that stature,” he said.

Asked if he would make a superhero film again, he said in his usual tongue-in-cheek style, “Jitni chaddi ho utne pair phailaane chahiye. If I can fit in those underpants and can afford them, I would love to make yet another superhero film.” He also added, “I owe this to my audience and therefore spent crores on getting the VFX right for RA.One.”

Does the outspoken Khan also have any plans to jump into politics? “Bilkul nahin. Just like I can’t be an astronaut as I am not an expert at it, I can’t be a politician,” he said.  “I want people to watch my films jab woh politics ki uthal puthal se pareshan ho jaaye,” he said. But SRK wouldn’t mind playing a politician on screen. “Agar aap humein Laloo Ji ka role denge to hum zarur karenge,” he said.

Seen toilets only on TV

Twelve-year-old Poshan Bibi, a student of Class 5 at the Government Primary School at Patta Kote, 7 km from here, has never been to a toilet. “We don’t have toilets at home either. We go to fields to answer the call of nature. But nowadays I feel embarrassed going out in the open,” she says.
