The promotion order of the primary class teachers or Junior Basic Teachers(JBT) is expected to come out by end of the week. The matter has been consideration for over a month now. Last month, the Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) was also set up to securitise the application submitted by the teachers eligible for promotions.

Nearly 160 teachers will be promoted as masters and mistress (elementary level teachers) in this promotion drive. Though majority of those promoted will be primary class teachers, promotion will also be given to nursery and drawing teachers, work experience instructors, senior lab attendants as well as ministerial staff. While BA/BEd is the minimum qualification to get promoted, department officials said the level of experience as well as seniority will be taken into consideration while promoting teachers.

DPI (S) Kamlesh Kumar said, “The list of those promoted will be declared by end of this week surely.”

The promotion order will bring relief to government schools across city, in which many posts had been lying vacant since 2013, after 186 such teachers were promoted to the rank of lecturer and transferred to other schools. This had resulted in immense amount of pressure on the existing teachers in various schools, who were forced to fill in for these teachers, in addition to their own duties.

Vinod Sharma, president of the Government Teachers Union, said the promotion of the primary class teachers was long pending. “Even as GTU was assured of the selected candidates list by the first week of August, we appeal to the department to do it at the earliest as the teachers are waiting,” he added.
