Justice Mohunta to join Punjab and Haryana high court

Justice Ashutosh Mohunta of the Telangana and Andhra Pradesh high court has been transferred to the Punjab and Haryana high court on medical grounds.

With this, the strength of the high court judges will reach 48 against the sanctioned 68.

Justice Mohunta was earlier with the Punjab and Haryana high court since his elevation in July 2001 and was transferred to the then Andhra Pradesh high court in October 2010.

A native of Sirsa (Haryana), he is at present the seniormost judge in the Telangana and Andhra Pradesh high court after the chief justice.

After completing LLB from Delhi University in 1976, he started practice as an advocate in the Punjab and Haryana high court. His father late SC Mohunta was advocate general of Haryana. Justice Mohunta’s sons Gaurav and Saurabh are practising advocates in the Punjab and Haryana high court.

Education dept to hire consellors to tackle violence

Keeping in view the increase in violence at government schools in the city of late, the UT education department has started the process to hire 87 counsellors to provide help to students. ile 40 counsellors will be hired for senior secondary schools, the rest will be for high schools.
