Jyani chargesheets 6 social security officials

Punjab social security minister Surjit Kumar Jyani on Thursday chargesheeted six district programme officers - four for embezzlement of funds and two for lapse of funds during the financial year 2013-14.


The action has been initiated after a departmental probe conducted on the directions of the minister, a spokesman said here.

It was found that medicine kits purchased for 'anganwari centres of Ludhiana, Mansa, Sangrur, Muktsar, Patiala and Fatehgarh Sahib districts were of low quality. On the basis of the probe, Naresh Kumar (Muktsar district programme officer), and Rakesh Walia (posted at Faridkot) have been chargesheeted for these anomalies.

Bathinda district programme officer Jagmel Singh, and another officer, Avtar Kaur, have been chargesheeted for purchasing low-quality medicine kits for Muktsar and Sangrur districts, respectively.

Hoshiarpur district programme officer Sumandeep Kaur and Barnala district programme officer Amarjit Kaur have been chargesheeted for lapse of funds to the tune of Rs. 89.22 lakh and Rs. 40.68 lakh, respectively, for the year 2013-14.
