Two unidentified armed men snatched Rs. 10 lakh from two liquor contractors in Sector 25, Panchkula, on Friday night.

The victims, Parminder Sharma and Sohan Sharma who happen to be brothers, had gone to collect the day’s earnings from their country-made liquor vend and were sitting in their Toyota Innova car when the incident took place. The robbers took away two bags carrying the cash.

The Sharmas, residents of Raipur Rani, run liquor vends in Sectors 10, 14, 12, 12A, 2, 4, 7, 5 and Sector 25. As part of their daily routine, they go to all vends to collect the day’s earnings. The Sector-25 vend was their last stop on Friday. Jeetu, a salesman at the Sector 25 vend, came to deliver Rs. 8,000 wrapped in paper to Sohan Sharma who was sitting along with Parminder in the driver’s seat.

The police claim that a Maruti Swift stopped near the liquor vend and the two robbers with their face covered pounced on the victims.

One of the robbers went up to the driver’s door and fired at the window, claimed Jeetu and Parminder. The other robber went up to Sohan. When they demanded money, Sohan gave Rs. 8,000, which Jeetu had handed over to them. However, they demanded more and when the brothers pointed to the rear seat, they opened the door and took away two bags carrying Rs. 10 lakh. In between, Jeetu took shelter inside the vend. He claimed he had seen one of the robbers carrying gun which he fired but the police did not recover any shell from the spot.

“We have registered a case under Section 392 (for robbery) of the Indian Penal Code. We are investigating the case,” said inspector Arvind Kumar, SHO of Chandimandir police station.
