Lt Gen KS Brar (retd) attackers jailed

Four people who attacked and slashed the throat of Gen K S Brar (retd) in central London in September last year for his role in the 1984 Operation Bluestar were today sentenced to jail at the Southwark Crown Court.
 
The four sentenced are Mandeep Singh Sandhu, 34, of Birmingham (for 14 years), Dilbag Singh, 37 (for 14 years), and Harjit Kaur, 39 (for 11 years) both from London, and Barjinder Singh Sangha, 33, of Wolverhampton (for 10 years and six months).
 
Gen Brar, who was on a visit to London, was attacked on Old Quebec Street on 30 September near the busy Marble Arch area in  central London as he walked with his wife.

Punjab: Rs 473 cr released to 8,033 farmers

The Punjab government has made online payments to the tune of Rs 473.54 crore to farmers against the purchase of their crop by various procurement agencies during the ongoing paddy procurement in the state. The payment has been made in accordance with the guidelines fixed by the central government.
