Major fire at NIELIT destroys key govt records

A major fire broke out in National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT) building, Sector 17, Chandigarh on Sunday evening. The fire started at around 4.50 pm, causing possible destruction of key data of Punjab government as well as Chandigarh administration and municipal corporation.


Though no casualities have been reported, there was no immediate word on whether there is any backup of the data destroyed in the fire.

As many as 14 fire tenders from Chandigarh, SAS Nagar and Panchkula were rushed to spot (SCO-114-116), but it failed to douse till the filing of the report. The fire burnt down everything, including computers containing the data, ACs, fans and all records of government department.
