Man arrested for rape on pretext of job

A 50-year-old man on Sunday has been arrested for allegedly raping a 30-year-old woman on the pretext of getting her a job in Chandigarh.


The accused has been identified Jasmer Singh, a resident of Raipur Khurd village in SAS Nagar district.

According to the police, the accused and the victim are known to each other. The accused on July 29 had brought the victim to a Sector 45-based hotel where he allegedly raped her. The victim later approached the police and medical examination confirmed that she was raped.

The victim alleged that the accused threatened her of dire consequences if she reported the matter to the police.

Acting on the complaint, the accused was arrested, who confessed to having raped the victim.
The accused has been booked for rape (376) and criminal intimidation (506) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the Sector 34 police station.

The accused was produced in the court and was sent to judicial custody.
