A man was sentenced to 10-year rigorous imprisonment (RI) on Wednesday for kidnapping a minor girl with intent to compel her for marriage and 5-year RI for attempt to rape.

Hemant alias Vicky Thakur, resident of Himachal Pradesh, was also sentenced for 3-year RI each for forgery for purpose of cheating and using as genuine a forged document as a forged driving licence was recovered from him.

All the punishments will run concurrently.

A fine of Rs. 1.10 lakh was also imposed on him.

On June 2, 2012, he fled with a minor girl, aged around 17. The parents of the girl lodged a complaint after which both were found at Pinjore on June 4, 2012. The police then arrested Hemant. As the girl was minor, the police lodged the rape case.

During the trial, school certificate was produced to show the victim as minor. The girl stated in her statement that she was in love with the man and wanted to marry him. As the girl was minor, Hemant was convicted.

Hemant has already been serving life term for murder and robbery that took place in 2004 in Kumarsain (Shimla district). His appeal is pending before the Supreme Court.  He was out on parole but jumped it and during this time he came in touch with the girl.
