Man uses Facebook to expose ugly face of UT police

A clerk working with the Chandigarh Industrial and Tourism Development Corporation (CITCO) has lodged a complaint against an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of the UT police on the Facebook page of the traffic police, accusing him of extorting Rs. 17,000 from his wife for not registering a case against their minor son in an accident case.


The CITCO employee, Anil Kumar Grover, has even uploaded on the internet an audio clip and video that purportedly contain conversations between him and ASI Ramesh Chander, who allegedly asked for bribe. The traffic police have transferred the case to the Sector-11 police station, where the cop is posted, for further investigation.

In his complaint on social networking website Facebook, Grover alleged that the ASI forcibly impounded his car, threatened him and misused official machinery. Grover has detailed that his minor son had actually hit two “wrongly parked” cars in the Sector-15 market on October 28, and Chander had reached the spot to probe the matter. Chander impounded all three cars and took them to the police station.

Grover further said the audio clip established how the police extorted Rs. 16,000 from his wife and another Rs. 1,000 from him with the threat of an FIR against his son. Sector-11 police station house officer (SHO), inspector Gurmukh Singh told the media that he would “personally” look into the matter.

Grover, however, wants the matter to be probed by the inspector general of police (IGP).
