The eyewitnesses told the police that they saw a white Range Rover SUV with a Chandigarh registration number speeding away after hitting the senior citizen.

As per the police, Shawinder was out for an evening walk and crossing the road, when hit by the Range Rover. No sooner Shawinder fell on the road, a family friend, who was passing by, noticed her and rushed her to Sector 16 general hospital, from where she was referred to PGIMER. Shawinder suffered a fracture in the left knee.

A doctor attending on her at the PGIMER said that the patient was conscious and out of danger. “A fracture has been detected in her left knee and is recuperating now,” he said.

Shawinder, who retired as a doctor (paediatrician), is a cardiac patient and also suffers from Parkinsons disease.

The police said they were going through the CCTV footage to identify the vehicle. “There are limited white Range Rover with Chandigarh registration number. We are trying to zero in on the offender,” a police official said. No case had been registered till the filing of this report as no complaint had come from the victim’s family.

One of the family members of the victim said, “Accidents do happen; the only painful thing is that the driver didn’t stop.”
