The decision to form the committee was taken in a meeting of the MC's finance and contract committee (F&CC) on March 26.

The six-member committee is expected to meet with taxi stand owners next week and listen and settle their grievances. After the meeting, the committee will submit a report in a month's time.

Deputy mayor Satish Kainth will be the chairman of the committee. Other members of the committee are: nominated councillor Babu Lal, SAD-BJP councillor Harjinder Kaur, additional commissioner Lalit Siwach, law officer Ashok K Gautham and superintendent (enforcement) Kashmira Singh.

The formation of the committee assumes significance as licences of 24 of the 40 taxi stands in the city had been cancelled in September last year, following complaints of irregularities committed by respective taxi stands.
