Monsoon activity has increased in western parts of India, so hope for some heavy rainfall in the next 3-4 days. That's the latest from the meteorological department regional office in Chandigarh.

The city received some sporadic but light rainfall in the past few days, mostly during the night, which resulted in the maximum temperature falling three degrees Celsius below normal to settle at 31.8 on Sunday. However, despite a constantly cloudy sky, the occasional spells of rain are far from being the cats and dogs the city was expecting from this monsoon.

On the upside, the neighbouring state of Punjab is receiving heavy rainfall, says the Met, while Haryana and Chandigarh are still on course for a normal monsoon. The city has, till July 3, received 276.7 mm rain. The cloud cover would remain intact and some more light rain is likely, too, before the heavy downpours return by the middle of the week.

The maximum temperature on Monday is expected to be around 32 degrees, while the minimum will be around 25.
