Minister Rakhra to unfurl the Tricolour

Minister of state for water supply and sanitation Surjit Singh Rakhra will hoist the National Flag at the Mata Gujri College's Independence-Day celebrations on August 15. 


During the rehearsal at the college, deputy commissioner (DC) Arun Sekhri said all arrangements had been made and security beefed up for the celebrations.

Reviewing the security arrangements with officials of the local administration, Sekhri said that care had been taken to prevent any sort of inconvenience for the public on that day.

Spelling out the itinerary for the day, the DC said that a parade by the Punjab Police personnel and NCC cadets would follow the flag-hoisting ceremony.

He added that students from various schools will perform cultural shows after which the minister will honour freedom fighters, and dignitaries for excellence in their chosen fields.
He also urged the residents to participate in celebrations.

Punjab: ABP Sanjha ceases operations

Failure to get access to cable TV carriage by the leading operator in Punjab has claimed another new channel as victim. Punjabi news channel ABP Sanjha announced to cease operations on Wednesday evening, affecting 200 employees. Management of the channel, a part of the Anandabazar Patrika group that runs leading channels including ABP News in Hindi, cited the virtual blackout as the primary reason for the shutdown.
