Minor rape: jail for all accused till Jan 20

Local court, on Monday, extended the judicial custody of all five dismissed UT police constables-Jagtar Singh (23), Akshay (24), Sunil Kumar (23), Himmat Singh (24) and Anil (25), booked on charges of rape of a 17-year-old girl, a resident Khuda Lahora.

The accused were produced at the court through video conferencing. The case would now come up for hearing on January 20.

Police have booked all the accused for rape (376), wrongful restraint (341), assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty (354) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) along with booking them under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

The victim had accused Sunil and Akshay of raping her while remaining Jagtar, Himmat and Anil were accused by the victim of molesting and blackmailing her.

SC quota in city education institutes to be raised to 19%

The administration is set to increase the reservation available to Scheduled Castes (SCs) in the city's educational institutes from 14% to 19%. The change is being made 20 years, after the last ceiling was set on May 7, 1993, based on the Census-1981.
