Punjab deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal on Monday dismissed druglord Jagdish Bhola's allegations against cabinet minister Bikram Singh Majithia.

"We have arrested him, so how can any of our ministers be involved," Sukhbir asked, also questioning the timing of the allegations. "Why now, almost two months after his arrest?" he added.

Meanwhile, Majithia lashed out at the Punjab Congress, saying that it had become party to a conspiracy to defame him through wild allegations made by a hardened drug criminal.

"Why would the Punjab Police take this step (arrest Bhola) if any patronage was extended to drug smugglers by the state," questioned Majithia.

He added that Bhola had been on the run for months and there was conclusive proof against him. "It is clearly a mischievous after-thought on his part as he had several opportunities to make these allegations earlier, but did not do so," Majithia said.
