A 56-year-old man was crushed to death as he was mowed down by a bus in Phase 6 on Tuesday. Victim Jaswinder Singh, a resident of HMT Colony in Mundi Kharar, was a typist in the high court.
A bus belonging to Jhajjz Travels hit his vehicle near Verka Chowk in Phase 6. He fell down due to the impact and came under the rear tyres of the bus.
The deceased was the sole breadwinner of family and is survived by wife, two daughters and a son. The police booked bus driver Bahadur Singh under sections 279 (rash driving or riding on a public way) and 304 (punishment for culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the IPC. : A 20-year-old youth hanged himself from the ceiling fan at his residence in Manimajra on Tuesday.
A diploma-holder in electronics, the victim, Gurnam, had left behind a suicide note, in which he had claimed responsibility for the step. Gurnam, however, didn't cite any reason behind his taking the extreme step and apologised to his parents.
Gurnam was alone at home when he took the extreme step. His sister had gone to school, while his parents were out for work. When his sister returned, she noticed him hanging and informed her parents. A police team reached the spot and sent the body for post-mortem. Parents of victim said that Gurnam was depressed but he never disclosed the reason to anyone.
