Nearly 30,000 applications received for city govt colleges

UT education department has received 29,988 applications for admission to city government colleges. The last date for submission of application form was Friday.

Post Graduate Government College, Sector 11, with 8,000 applications remained the favourite, closely followed by Government College for Girls, Sector 11, which received 7,963 forms.

Admission counselling for these government colleges will begin on July 7.

The Director Higher Education Sandeep Hans said, "Besides accepting admission forms online, we have also started with the facility of depositing fees at the E-sampark centres. Our aim is to
make the entire process of admissions hassle-free.”

GCG-42 (6,969 applications), PGGC-46 (3,916 applications) and PGGC-42 (2,243 applications) were among the other preferred choices. Regional Institute for Education (RIE), meanwhile, received 79 applications.

Among the non-BCom subjects, BA remained the most popular choice, followed by BSc computer science and BSc non-medical, said education department officials, adding that they were yet to ascertain the exact number of applications received by each of the courses.
