'None from Haryana among hostages'

Haryana chief secretary SC Choudhary on Monday said that no person from Haryana was among the 40 hostages held in Iraq. Six persons from Haryana, who were residing in Iraq, have so far contacted the control room set by Haryana government at Chandigarh.


Also, Haryana residents whose near and dear ones were stranded in Iraq have been in touch with the control room and 177 such calls have so far been received.

The Chief Secretary said that the state government is in constant touch with the ministry of external affairs for the safe return of people hailing from Haryana. A control room has been setup to function round-the-clock to get information about the people hailing from Haryana stranded in trouble torn Iraq.
 
Majority of those stuck in Iraq hail from Yamunanagar, Kurukshetra, Karnal and Ambala districts.
 
The state government has set up a control room with telephone number 0172-5059197 where people can provide information regarding members of their family or relatives stranded in Iraq so that necessary steps can be taken for their safe evacuation.
