No respite from heat in Punjab, Haryana

Hot weather conditions continued unabated across Punjab and Haryana on Tuesday with mercury hovering close to the 40 degrees Celsius mark.

According to MeT office, Bhiwani in Haryana experienced a hot day at 40.7 degrees C, two notches above normal. Narnaul also had a hot day at 40 degrees C while Ambala's maximum settled at 38.7 degrees C.

Chandigarh residents also braved a hot day at 38.2 degrees C, up one notch than normal.

In Punjab, Amritsar recorded a high of 40.4 degrees C while Ludhiana and Patiala registered respective maximum temperatures of 39.7 degrees C and 39.2 degrees C.

Don't take Sikh religious matters to court: Akal Takht chief

Amid the controversy over the creation of the Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (HSGMC) and the stand-off between Sikh leaders in Punjab and those in Haryana, the Jathedar (chief) of the Akal Takht, Gurbachan Singh, says that Sikhs should not take these matters to court. Instead, these should be "resolved within the religion".
