The Election Commission of India (ECI) will on Saturday (July 26) issue the notification for the Punjab assembly by-elections in Talwandi Sabo and Patiala that are due on August 21.
Punjab chief electoral officer (CEO) VK Singh said here on Friday that by the schedule release already on July 19, the nominations would start on July 26 and end on August 2. The scrutiny of nominations will be on August 4 and the deadline for withdrawal is August 6.
Counting will be on August 25 and the election process would complete before August 30. The polling hours are from 7am to 6pm.
The candidates can file nomination papers before the sub-divisional magistrate in respective constituencies, since the SDMs are also returning officers for the voting. The papers can be filed between 11 am and 3pm on all weekdays other than public holidays.
The model code of conduct has come into force in Bathinda and Patiala districts and will continue to be applied till the election is over.
