The UT department of information technology has opened three new e-Sampark kiosks in Sector 37, Dadu Majra Colony and Sector 48 on the demand of resident welfare associations in these areas.

The residents in these areas can now avail themselves of various public services like utility bills -- electricity, water and telephone--VAT/CST payments and can buy stamp papers at the Sampark kiosks in their sectors.

e-Sampark kiosks are unique public services delivery outlets conceived and set up by the department of information technology.

The uniqueness in this kiosk-based public services delivery concept is that the infrastructural as well as operations costs for the Chandigarh administration are significantly low and these kiosks can be set up in busy areas very quickly.

The first Sampark kiosk was set up in Sector 35 in April earlier this year and in no time it gained popularity to the extent that it has become a landmark in the locality. The Sampark kiosk in Sector 37 has been set up at the water works station and the other two have been set up at the Community Centre of Dadu Majra Colony and Sector 48.

These e-Sampark kiosks are manned by a single operator and are equipped with a laptop and an energy-efficient printer. The kiosks operate from 9 am to 6 pm on all days except Sundays and public holidays. Like a full-fledged Sampark Centre, they provide over 25 G2C and B2C services but because of security concerns, Sampark kiosks enable payments in cash up to Rs. 5000 only.

A few services, which require attestation by officials like bus pass for students and senior citizen cards are completed on the following day.

The UT secretary, information technology, Prerna Puri stated:"In order to enhance government-public interface for availing of services, the department of information technology is consistently innovating the delivery channels and work-flows. The department is working towards opening of such kiosks in other sectors as well and these include Sector 27 and Sector 38."
