The Punjab NRI Commission on Friday took suo motu notice of reports of 700 youths from Punjab stuck in Kuwait, a spokesman said here.
The commission has asked the union ministry of external affairs to take adequate steps and, if needed, send an envoy or a team to that country to bring them back.

Workers from Punjab have reportedly been detained in Kuwait by their employer.
The commission expressed serious concern over reports of these 700 Punjabis not being given food for three days and many of them were also beaten and hospitalised there.

“The business of human trafficking is flourishing in Punjab. A large number of registered and unregistered travel agents operating in Punjab are the major source of human trafficking, despite the enactment of a law and the recommendation of this commission to constitute law-enforcement units that have not been constituted, as yet,” the commission’s order said.
“No aid or legal help has been provided to them to fight for their rights. There is nobody to help them,” the order of commission chairman justice Arvind Kumar (retd) and ADGP-cum-commission member S Chatopadhyaya further said.
Punjab chief secretary Sarvesh Kaushal, when contacted, said the state government was in touch with the ministry of external affairs on a day-to-day basis.

“Our immediate concern is to save the lives of all those stuck in such countries. Other aspects would be looked into after their safe exit from those places,” he said.
