Nurmahal resident shot dead in Philippines

A local woman who has been living in the Philippines for the past 20 years was shot dead near Manila in that country on Friday morning.

Neelam, daughter-in-law of Quilla Mohalla resident Inderjit Singh Sokhal, was riding pillion with her domestic help on a motorcycle outside Manila when two unidentified assailants shot at her. Neelam died on the spot.

Residents of the locality expressed grief after Neelam's husband Devinder Kumar conveyed the news to his parents.

Several men from Nurmahal, Nakodar and Shahkot areas here have been murdered in the Philippines in the past six years.
