One held for attempt to rape 3-year-old

Police arrested a 40-year-old labourer for attempting to rape a three-year-old girl here on Saturday evening.


The accused has been identified as Ram Bahadur alias Veer Bahadur, a resident of Kajheri village.

According to the police, the accused lives in the neighbourhood of the victim. In a complaint given to the police, the family members of the victim alleged that the accused, who was in an inebriated state, took the child to a secluded area and made an attempt to rape her.

The victim raised the alarm and neighbours rushed to her rescue. The accused was thrashed by the residents of the area before beinh handed over to the police.

The father of the victim is an auto driver.

A case of sexual assault under sections 8, 18 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012, has been registered at the the Sector-36 police station. The accused was produced in the court and sent to jail.
